🎬 DiscoverTuesday morning. Nino arrives at "ბაბუას მარანი" for her second day. Before the kitchen opens, she walks through the restaurant reading everything she can see — the menu board, posted rules, labels, signs.

Nino (reading the menu board):

დღის კერძი: ხინკალი. წერია — ხინკალი!

dghis k'erdzi: khink'ali. ts'eria — khink'ali!

"Today's dish: khinkali. It's written — khinkali!"

Tamara (arranging tables):

კედელზე გივის წესები აწერია. ყველა ახალი მზარეული უნდა წაიკითხოს.

k'edelze givis ts'esebi ats'eria. q'vela akhali mzareuli unda ts'aik'it'khos.

"Givi's rules are written ON the wall. Every new cook must read them."

Nino (reading the wall):

"პირველი წესი: სამზარეულო სუფთა უნდა იყოს." — ნომერი ორი?

"p'irveli ts'esi: samzareulo supta unda iq'os." — nomeri ori?

""Rule one: the kitchen must be clean." — Number two?"

Tamara:

"მეორე წესი: არაფერი არ წერია მეორე წესზე." — ეს გივის იუმორია.

"meore ts'esi: arap'eri ar ts'eria meore ts'esze." — es givis iumoria.

""Rule two: nothing is written about rule two." — That's Givi's humor."

Nino (confused):

მაგრამ... წერია — ეს ხომ არ არის იწერება?

magram... ts'eria — es khom ar aris its'ereba?

"But... წერია — this isn't the same as იწერება, right?"

Tamara (sitting down):

არა! იწერება — ახლა ვიღაც წერს. წერია — უკვე დაწერილია, აქ არის, ჩანს. შედეგი.

ara! its'ereba — akhla vighats ts'ers. ts'eria — uk've dats'erilia, ak aris, chans. shedegi.

"No! იწერება — someone is writing right now. წერია — it's already written, it's here, you can see it. A result."

Givi (entering, pointing to a jar):

ქილაზე რა წერია? — "მარილი." ქილაზე ხომ არავინ ახლა წერს? უკვე აწერია!

k'ilaze ra ts'eria? — "marili." k'ilaze khom aravín akhla ts'ers? uk've ats'eria!

"What's written on the jar? — "Salt." Nobody is writing on the jar right now, is it? It's already written ON it!"

Nino (the lightbulb):

ა, გავიგე! იწერება — პროცესი. წერია — მდგომარეობა. როგორც "is being written" და "is written"!

a, gavige! its'ereba — p'rotsesi. ts'eria — mdgomarеoba. rogortsа "is being written" da "is written"!

"Ah, I get it! იწერება — process. წერია — state. Like "is being written" vs "is written"!"

💡The key distinction: იწერება (dynamic passive) describes a PROCESS — something is being written right now. წერია (static passive) describes a STATE — something IS written, it's already there, you can see it. One is action; the other is result. In daily life, წერია is far more common — you read things far more often than you watch them being written.
