🎬 DiscoverThe family has arrived in Mtskheta. They stand on the old bridge overlooking the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers. The Jvari monastery sits on the clifftop above them.

Nino (pointing at a bus pulling in):

ტურისტები შემოდიან ეკლესიაში!

turistebi shemodian ek'lesia-shi!

"Tourists are coming IN to the church!"

Father (looking at the river):

ნახე — არაგვი ჩამოდის მთიდან, მტკვარი კი — გამოდის ხეობიდან.

nakhe — aragvi chamodis mtidan, mtkvari k'i — gamodis kheobi-dan.

"Look — the Aragvi comes DOWN from the mountains, while the Mtkvari comes OUT of the gorge."

Grandfather (gazing up at Jvari):

და ბერები ჯვრიდან ჩამოდიან ქალაქში — ან მგზავრები ამოდიან ჯვარზე.

da berebi jvridan chamodian k'alak'shi — an mgzavrebi amodian jvarze.

"And the monks come DOWN from Jvari to the town — or travelers come UP to Jvari."

Nino:

ბაბუ, ეს ისევ "დის" ხომ? მაგრამ ახლა ყველაფერი მო-თი მოდის!

babu, es isev "dis" khom? magram akhla q'velaperi mo-ti modis!

"Grandpa, it's still "dis" right? But now everything comes with მო!"

Grandfather:

ზუსტად! გუშინ — რვა მიმართულება "იქით." დღეს — შვიდი მიმართულება "აქეთ." ეს სარკეა!

zust'ad! gushin — rva mimartuleba "ik'it." dghes — shvidi mimartuleba "ak'et." es sark'ea!

"Exactly! Yesterday — eight directions "that way." Today — seven directions "this way." It's a mirror!"

💡Four complex preverbs in one scene: შემო- (INTO the church, toward us), ჩამო- (DOWN from the mountains, toward us), გამო- (OUT of the gorge, toward us), ამო- (UP to Jvari, toward us). Every one contains მო- — and every one points TOWARD the speaker. Grandfather nailed it: it's a mirror of yesterday's 8 "away" preverbs.
