🎬 DiscoverMonday evening. Grandmother arrived this morning (Lesson 2-7). Now the family is gathered in the living room. She has a bag full of presents from Kutaisi.

Dato (whispering to Nino):

რას ამბობ? ვერ გავიგე.

ras ambob? ver gavige.

"What are you saying? I didn't understand."

Nino:

ვამბობ, რომ ბებიას საჩუქარი მაქვს!

vambob, rom bebias sachuqari makvs!

"I'm saying that I have a present for grandma!"

Grandmother (handing out gifts):

ბებია ყველას აძლევს! ეს შენთვისაა, დათო.

bebia q'velas adzlevs! es shentvisaa, dato.

"Grandma gives to everyone! This is for you, Dato."

Mother:

ბებია ამბობს, ხვალაც მოვა.

bebia ambobs, khalats mova.

"Grandma says she'll come tomorrow too."

Father (arriving from work):

რა თქვა ბებიამ? რა მისცა ბავშვებს?

ra tkva bebiam? ra mistsa bavshvebs?

"What did grandma say? What did she give the children?"

Dato:

ბებიამ იტყვის ხვალ! და კიდევ მისცემს!

bebiam itq'vis khval! da k'idev mistsems!

"Grandma will say tomorrow! And will give more!"

💡Two everyday verbs — "say" and "give" — and both are shapeshifters! Grandmother ამბობს (says) in the present, but Father asks რა თქვა (what did she say?) — completely different root. She აძლევს (gives) now, but Father asks რა მისცა (what did she give?) — another root change. After "come" and "go" in Lesson 2-7, you already know what's happening: suppletion.
